Installing WordPress on a Temporary URL
I just recently had to install a blog on a site that was about to change the web hosting company. They had signed up with a new host who gave them temporary ftp details so the site could be uploaded and ready to go when the nameservers changed over.
Setting up WordPress and the database went smoothly, but after the dns had updated, the mappress plugin reported a problem with the API key… The problem was the temporary site URL stored in the database from the installation.
To fix it, i needed to log in to phpMyAdmin and go to the wp_options table to edit the option_name > siteurl field.
