Show in Mailbox

Recently, I performed a search in Mail for a particular message. Mail duly found it for me but the content of the message wasn’t there; all I had was 3 little words – “Show in Mailbox” that looked like a link.

The message was sent from an account that was no longer active. Enabling it didn’t fix the issue, nor did going to Mailbox > Rebuild resolve it either.

I found the solution on the foliovision blog here: Ghost Apple Mail Messages.

  1. Quit Apple Mail
  2. Open up ~/Library/Mail
  3. Delete Envelope Index
  4. Restart Apple Mail
  5. Sit back and wait as the full index is rebuilt
