Fix Problem Web Pages

I have just spent several hours trying to debug a file on a client’s site, that was not behaving as expected…

The fix was to delete it from the server and upload my backup copy! The only thing I can imagine might have possibly happened was a possible corruption caused during upload; maybe the upload stalled? I don’t know, but I could have saved myself a lot of bother by removing the file and replacing it with one that I knew to be clean when tested on my own local testing server.

For what it’s worth, I use Transmit for my ftp software and generally find it to be pretty good. It’s only available for Mac OSX, but I like the image previews, in program editing and the ability to integrate with BBEdit/Text Wrangler.

Finally, my client uses United Hosting. You often only find out how good (or bad) a web host is when you need support. I found them to be really good and recommend them to anyone in the UK who needs some webspace.
