Adding Keywords and Descriptions in Contribute
One of the things that will help your website in the Search Engine listings is keywords. Although they play a less important role in promoting your site these days, they should not be over-looked.

Adding key words in Contribute
You can add them to your pages using Contribute, by going to the Format menu and selecting Keywords and Description. This will bring up a panel where you can enter the key words and phrases, separated by commas at the top and the description below.*
The description is often used when the sites are listed in the Search Engine results, to give a summary of the page content. If you don’t have a description added, the first few lines of text found on your page will be displayed in the results instead and this may not be what you want.
Once you have clicked OK and added your keywords and description you need to rpublish your page. You won’t see any difference, but the code (called Meta tags) will have been added to your page and will be visible for the Search Engine’s robots/spiders that search the web to read.
If you need any help with Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), please contact me to find out how I might be able to help improve your site’s listings. There is a lot more to SEO than keywords and descriptions but adding these tags to your site will certainly be a good place to start.
*A quick note on the use of keywords: Using a few choice or select keywords is considered best practice, maybe between 5 – 10. If you use a lot of keywords Search Engines will either over-look some of them or even penalise you for trying to cheat!
Keywords – good, lots of keywords – not good.
